Janelle Monáe and Tessa Thompson have been stirring up dating rumors these past few months, teasing the media and fans with red carpet appearances, a steamy collaboration for a music video, and many more caught-on-cam moments that make people wonder: is there anything between these girls? Or is everything just for show?
Well, you can’t blame people for thinking the latter, considering how talented this duo is. Thompson had worked in several very successful TV shows and movies including Grey’s Anatomy and Thor: Ragnarok.

Of course, one way to clear things up in a rumored relationship between two people is to determine their gender identity. During an interview with Rollingstone Magazine, Janelle came out as pansexual saying:
“Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women, I consider myself to be a free a– m——-er.”
In other words, Janelle’s preferences in a partner isn’t limited to a certain gender. Instead, she’s open to dating whoever she wants to date, regardless of their sexuality.
Meanwhile, Tessa confessed during an interview that she is, indeed, attracted to both men and women, making her bisexual.
In other words, that would make it totally possible for Janelle and Tessa to be full-on partners. So, are they in a relationship?
Is Janelle Monáe Dating Tessa Thompson?
Sadly, neither Janelle nor Tessa has publicly confirmed that they are, in fact, a couple. However, they have since opened up about the nature of their relationship and why they seem disinterested in being so blunt about it. Thompson said to Net-a-Porter:
“It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence. I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones. But so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Just in case you didn’t catch it, Thompson did call Janelle “her person”. Whether or not that’s considered a confirmation of their romance is totally up to you. But if you ask us, Thompson could have just used that in a platonic way.

Tessa Thompson Reacts to Dating Rumors with Janelle Monáe
Often when false speculation is made between two celebrities, they either deny it or ignore it to death. In the case of Tessa and Janelle, however, they addressed it in a way that gave more questions than answers:
“We love each other deeply. We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, that’s okay. It doesn’t bother me.”
Tessa then followed that statement up with a tweet, saying:

At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter whether Tessa and Janelle are friends or more than that. As long as they enjoy each other’s existence, that’s the most important thing. We’d love to see more of this power duo in the near future, though!
