Lana Del Rey is definitely known for her playful and hypersexual character. Coincidentally, all the other women in the industry whose career is built upon their promiscuous image has been dubbed cultural icons by the gay community.
And as for Lana Del Rey, there has been some discussion about her inclusion to that list – but is she, like Madonna and Cher and Beyonce, just an ally of the LGBTQ+ community or is she a member herself?
To answer that question, let’s take a look at her dating history, her influence to the gay community, and her actual response to gay rumors.
Lana Del Rey Loves Men
Lana has dated many men in the past – and not just any men, we’re talking about successful men. And based on her long list of ex lovers, Lana doesn’t have a certain type. In fact, she has dated men twice her age before.
If you’re curious to know the names of all the men Lana has loved before, take a look at this list:
- Jimmy Gnecco
- Steven Mertens
- Barrie-James O’Neill
- Marilyn Manson
- Shannon Leto
- Axl Rose
- Andrei Gillot
- Francesco Carrozzini
- James Franco
- G-Eazy
- Sean Larkin
- Clayton Johnson
As you can see, Lana Del Rey is exclusively reserving herself for men only. And if her dating profile is of any indication to her sexuality, we can deduce that Lana is straight. But of course, we know that a person’s sexuality is more complex than that.
Lana Del Rey is a Gay Icon
Despite the fact that Lana has only ever dated men and sings love songs dedicated to men, she has been regarded as a gay icon. Perhaps she could even be the first and only artist to be given the same status without being vocal about being supportive of the LGBTQ+ community.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that she sings about certain subjects that the gays can relate to – being misfits, experiencing painful relationships, and lusting over love and pleasure. She talks about the complexity of love and all the gays are aggressively agreeing with her.
What Is Lana Del Rey’s Response to Gay Rumors?
Sadly, Lana hasn’t actually responded to the gay rumors. In fact, she hasn’t even opened up about her status as a gay icon. She has barely acknowledged her large gay following, too.
And the fact that the only evidence we have of that is through a leaked audio of her P4K interview says a lot about the dearth of Lana’s acknowledgement to her gay fans. Here’s what she said:
“And when I tour whether I’m like at The Shrine in LA or in Norway or whatever, there’s 20 rows, you know, of like my gay fans and I can see. I know that. I can tell and I don’t really know and I think we probably share a sense of vulnerability, maybe being on one end of the stick that’s not always so easy but having the personality and the flair and finesse and fire to make our own way to whatever that unique, probably creative, end goal is. Whether it’s in the arts or whatever. And so many of the people I work with and friends are gay artists.”
I guess we’ll just have to be more patient for our Summertime Sadness queen to finally recognize her massive influence to the gay community. In the end, though, Lana Del Rey is still straight.
