Unlike her sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen whose careers were built on child-friendly entertainment, Elizabeth Olsen has a more mature target audience. Most of her TV shows and movies are PG-rated and she has done a few NSFW scenes.
If you’ve already seen OldBoy and Ingrid Goes West, you’ve probably already seen Elizabeth smoking a cig.
But does she actually smoke in real life? Or is it just something that she does for her job? Let’s find out.
Does Elizabeth Olsen Smoke in Real Life?
As mentioned earlier, Lizzie isn’t one to back away from smoking in front of the cameras – but as for whether or not those were real cigs is up for debate.
Hollywood is known for using prop cigarettes where, instead of containing the basic ingredients of a real cigarette stick, the tobacco leaves are replaced with:
- Tea leaves
- Cloves
- Rose petals
- Jasmine
- Marshmallow plant
Prop cigarettes are nicotine-free, so it’s less harmful to those who smoke it. Still, some people consider prop cigarettes as the same thing as the real ones. And if that’s what you also think, then perhaps Lizzie is a smoker after all.
But what about behind the scenes, when no cameras are around? Apparently, Elizabeth Olsen does smoke in real life. In a video posted by his ex-boyfriend on Snapchat in 2017, Lizzie can be seen smiling at the camera before putting a lit cigarette between her lips.
The paparazzi have also circulated photos of her smoking in the middle of the street, and one man who claims to have shared the same dormitory as Lizzie during their college days at NYU has written testimony regarding Lizzie’s smoking habits:
“I also consistently saw her smoking cigarettes (lit by matches… why do I remember that?) and reading books in Washington Square Park.”
Moreover, she casually confirmed that she smoked “so many cigarettes” while filming Ingrid Goes West. So, maybe they weren’t using prop cigs after all.
Is Elizabeth Olsen a Chainsmoker?
Due to the Marvel star being notoriously private about her personal life, we don’t know how often Lizzie smokes in a day, and therefore it’s impossible to know whether or not she’s a chain smoker. Her twin sisters, however, seem to be addicted to it.
If she is a chainsmoker, perhaps it’s time for her to cut down on her nicotine consumption. After all, it’s very important for her to be in good health since she’ll be doing a lot of stunts as Scarlet Witch.
As for her being a ‘bad influence to kids’, Lizzie has made it perfectly clear that she doesn’t want children to be looking up to her super hero character:
“I think the thing that I worry about is when people start saying, ‘Is she a role model to children?’ And I don’t like answering that question at all because she is a wman who’s made big mistakes and I don’t want to think of her as a role model, encouraging kids to make similar violent mistakes. The only thing that worries me is she became this thing that even little kids loved, and then we’re really pushing it with this one.”
So, there you have it. Elizabeth Olsen does smoke – both in front of the cameras and in real life. What do you think about that? Do you think she should stop? Let us know in the comments below!
