No one saw BTS coming when they took the world by storm with their hit songs such as Butter and Permission to Dance.
The septet, composed of Rap Monster, V, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, Suga, and JHope, has created an empire of incredibly loyal, and sometimes insanely obsessed, fans whom they have dubbed as the Army.
But while their interactions with supporters are often chaotic and wild, the boys have maintained some sense of harmony within the band thanks to the culturally-imposed seniority.
Indeed, age is a big deal for Koreans. It determines the level of authority that you have in a given setting. In BTS, the same thing also applies. So, if you’re curious to know the birth rank of every member in the biggest KPOP group in the world, keep reading!
#7: Jeon Jungkook (Youngest)
Jeon Jungkook, known mononomously as Jungkook, is the youngest member of BTS. He was born on September 1, 1997. He is currently 24 years old.
As the maknae, Jungkook often has to endure being picked on by the older members of the group. There are many compilations of clips showing how Jungkook, being the adorable baby bro of BTS, has to accept favors from other members. But it’s nothing serious, though.
They’ve known each other for almost a decade already, so they see themselves as brothers. In fact, as much as they love to make fun of their baby brother, Jungkook also gets the most love and protection from other members. The hyungs make sure that Jungkook is taken care of.
#6: Kim Tae-Hyung
Kim Tae-Hyung, most popularly known as V, is the second youngest member of the group. He was born on December 30, 1995, making him 26 years old as of the writing.
At the time of BTS’ debut in 2013, V was only 17 years old at the time. He was also kind of the ‘unknown member’ of the band, with his inclusion only being announced at the time of their debut. So, originally, people thought that the group was composed of only 6 members.
But, as it turned out, they had an additional member. Moreover, V was not supposed to audition for Big Hit Entertainment – the agency that created BTS.
When he was 15 years old, he accompanied his friend to the audition. Some employees noticed V and encouraged him to try out on the spot.
“They asked me if I would like to try out so I said yes. I danced and they said do you have something else? I sang for them and they asked do you have anything else to show us? I beatboxed and they asked what else? I rapped and they said what else? I brought my saxophone and played it for them to which they responded do you have anything else to show us? It was then that I finally said no I don’t have anything else to show you.”
In the end, though, he was the only one who got accepted from his region. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be!
#5: Park Ji-Min
Park Ji-Min, who goes only by his first name, is the last among the maknae line of BTS. He was born on October 13, 1995 – just barely a month after V. He is currently 26 years old.
The main dancer of the band joined BTS when he was just 17 years old. Before that, he took contemporary dancing classes in Busan High School of Arts.
He was one of the best performing students in the school – so much so that his teachers insisted that he audition for an entertainment company.
#4: Kim Nam-Joon
Kim Nam-Joon, most famously known as Rap Monster or RM, was born on September 12, 1994. This means that he is 27 years old as of today.
In a way, you can consider RM as the middle child of the band – minus the negative stereotypes that come with that position. In fact, his talent and contributions to the band is not to be ignored.
If it was not for his amazing leadership, BTS would not be what it is today. Perhaps most importantly, their lead singer, Jungkook, wouldn’t have even joined the group. The maknae of the group said:
“I participated in Superstar K3 and received calls from seven agencies after. I ended up [at Big Hit] because Rap Monster was so cool.”
Indeed, RM has accomplished a lot of things in his age. People around the world are so impressed with him that some have even decided to send their kids to RM’s previous school so that they would be as good as him!
#3: Jung Ho-Seok
Jung Ho-Seok, who goes by the name JHope, was born on February 18, 1994. He is currently 28 years old, making him the third oldest member of the group.
Despite already being at his late 20s, JHope still has a very jovial and happy-go-lucky vibe to him. In fact, that’s exactly the premise behind his stage name: JHope.
He aspires to be the ray of light to his fans when they are shrouded with darkness and uncertainty. When you watch videos of JHope, you will certainly feel the positivity emanating off of him!
#2: Min Yoon-Gi
Min Yoon-Gi, better known as Suga, is the second oldest member of the group at 29 years old. He was born on March 9, 1993.
Despite being only the second oldest, Suga is often regarded by his fans as ‘the old man’ of the group because of his very reserved character. This is evident in their RUN BTS show.
Whenever there are physical activities and games, Suga is almost always the one who’s struggling to catch up. Moreover, he is also the most hardworking member of the group, which further demonstrates his matured attitude.
#1: Kim Seok-Jin (Oldest)
Kim Seok-Jin, known mononomously as Jin, is the oldest member of BTS. He was born on December 4, 1992, making him 29 years old.
Jin doesn’t shy away from using his hyung card to other members whenever the situation requires it. However, he often only does it for the joke of it. In fact, despite being the oldest of the group, Jin doesn’t use his power and influence that often.
Instead, he cares after his band members like a true older brother. He cooks for them, cleans the house, and offers words of encouragement.
So, now you know who’s the oldest and youngest members of BTS! Let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
