As the daughter of a Grammy-award winning and widely successful artist, Sy’Rai was bound to live a life filled with media exposure and attention.
Lately, though, she’s been trying to prove to the world that she’s more than just Brandy Norwood’s daughter and that she’s capable of making a name for herself solely with her skills and talent.
So, if you’re interested in knowing more about Sy’Rai, keep reading!
Get To Know Sy’Rai’s Star-Studded Family
Sy’Rai comes from a very talented and successful family. Her mother is none other than the precarious and critically-acclaimed singer Brandy Norwood. Her father is Robert Smith or better known as Big Bert who works as a music producer and songwriter.
Although Big Bert and Brandy eventually split sometime in the early 2000s, Sy’Rai still managed to form a bond with her father. Big Bert even posted a heartfelt tribute to his daughters, including Sy’Rai, via Instagram with a caption:
“My princesses. My babies aren’t so baby anymore. I’m so blessed to be sharing this journey with them.”
Meanwhile, Sy’Rai has five step-siblings on his father’s side, namely:
- Rain
- Soleil
- Sade
- Robert (Tico)
- Judah
As they are all still very young, they are maintaining a very private and low-key life that is free from all the craziness of the media. And honestly, that’s a good move by Big Bert.
Sy’Ria is Following Her Mom’s Footsteps
As it turns out, Sy’Ria has inherited her mother’s amazing talent in singing – and she won’t hesitate to show them off. She has done multiple covers of her mother’s songs such as Almost Doesn’t Count and The Boy Is Mine – although, the latter was more of a parody than a cover.
What most fans noticed was just how much Sy’Rai resembled her mother, Brandy, from the looks to the voice.
Thankfully, we don’t have to keep wishing for a mother and daughter duet as they have already done it for us in a music project for the Disney+ movie Cheaper By The Dozen. The film features a song called Nothing Without You which is sung by Brandy and her daughter Sy’Rai.
Sy’Rai also has released her debut single called At Your Best in 2020. It is an interpolation of the 1994 song of the same name by singer Aaliyah.
As for what her legendary mother thinks about Sy’Rai’s dreams of becoming just like her, Brandy says:
“I would love for her to follow in my footsteps. I think she has everything it’s going to take. She has a beautiful spirit about her and I want her to get into her whole philanthropy. I think it’s great, like what I’m doing with T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods. I would love for her to do things like that giving back, and that’s all a part of it.”
While it is true that Sy’Ria is trying her hand at becoming a successful musician like her mother, it doesn’t mean that she wants to live in her shadow. In fact, she has gone above and beyond to prove that she, too, can do it without feeding off of the benefits of nepotism.
Sy’Ria is currently the owner of clothing apparel called Privileged Apparel LA. On top of that, she is also a social media influencer, with thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram. She also occasionally vlogs on YouTube.
Flex That Body: Sy’Rai’s Weight Loss Journey
Aside from being an inspiration to young aspiring artists, Sy’Rai is also an inspiration to those who are looking to drop a few pounds. In a 2021 interview with The Real Daytime, the young musician opened up about overcoming her insecurities and what she did to finally reach her health goals:
“I had a lot of health issues when I was at the size that I was. My mom was with me during everything, she saw me go through a lot and I just decided to really take my health seriously. So, I changed my mindset, I changed my mentality.”
In the same interview, Sy’Ria also teased her fans with an announcement that she has been working on making more music. Now, we’d like to ask: Are you excited to hear more from Sy’Ria? What kind of songs would you like her to make? Let us know in the comments below!
