It is no secret that the mainstream media showered American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo with highly coveted accolades and awards upon her entry to the industry.
Her first ever studio album Sour even received a Grammy nomination for Best Album of the Year. On top of that, her hit song Drivers License was Spotify’s most-streamed track of 2021, with over 1.1billion streams worldwide.
Indeed, she is living the life that most kids her age could only dream of. And, of course, with great success comes significant sacrifices. Many are wondering whether Olivia Rodrigo gave up her education to follow her dreams of becoming a popstar.
If you’re one of those people, well, wonder no more. Join us as we take a look at Olivia Rodrigo’s educational background.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Primary Education
When Olivia was still a small little girl from Murrieta, California, she had already worked on her passion for music by taking vocal lessons for her preschool education.
She also learned how to play piano. At the age of seven, Olivia had already entered elementary school. She enrolled in the following schools:
- Lisa J. Mails Elementary School
- Dorothy McElhinney Middle School
She continued to participate in acting and musical events in her schools as advised by her vocal coach.
It was during this time in her life that Olivia started to invest more of her time in developing her singing skills. According to one of her childhood music teachers, Olivia learned how to play guitar by the age of 12, which ultimately helped her land her first-ever Disney role in Bizaardvark.
When young Olivia was away for shoots, she still received formal education by having tutors coming with her on sets.
Needless to say, her childhood music teachers and vocal coaches are extremely proud of what Olivia has achieved. Gwyn Sanborn, one of her vocal teachers, recounted the time they first put Olivia on stage for a live performance:
“We were just blown away by the fact she was so young and just owned that stage. We put her on the show and she nailed it. The first time ever singing with a band, live in front of an audience, and she just did a fantastic job at seven years old.”
Olivia Rodrigo’s High School Education
We all know Olivia Rodrigo’s character in the Disney+ series called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series attends East High School. But how about in real life? Is Olivia also a high school student?
As it turns out, she is – well, she was. Olivia just officially graduated from high school last year, and she’s got a diploma to prove it. The hitmaker also shared pics of her in a cap and gown on Instagram with a caption: ‘bye high school!!!!!!’
Along with the photo roll was a picture of a car with the words ‘Just Graditated’ painted on its back window. Before you take shots at American education, just know that it wasn’t a spelling mistake. It’s a reference to a Rick and Morty episode where Rick uttered the now-classic lines “Did I graditate this time yet?”
Is Olivia Rodrigo Going to College?
As of now, there seems to be no plans for Olivia to pursue a college degree. Besides, does she even need to at this point? She’s already got a very successful career. Getting a baccalaureate degree will simply be a bonus.
Meanwhile, she’s been very supportive of her friends and colleagues who did decide to get higher education. She recently congratulated her ex-lover and former Bizaardvark co-star Ethan Wacker for attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Even if Olivia decides not to go to college, she could end up getting an honorary doctorate degree just like her idol Taylor Swift if she continues to grind.
