How many famous people named “Justin” can you think of from the top of your head? If you ask us, well, just two: Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake.
Aside from sharing their first name, they’re both extremely successful singers and dancers. In fact, they’re running candidates for the “Prince of Pop” title.
Their connection also goes as far back as the early days of JB’s career. In 2008, when Biebs was just a dreamer posting videos on YouTube, he covered Timberlake’s Cry Me a River.
His YouTube gig also paved the way for him to be discovered by Scooter Braun – the guy who would later make him big enough to be recognized by JT himself. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Justin Bieber revealed:
“[Usher] wanted to sign me, but there was someone else. Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign me… What happened was, Justin Timberlake and Usher both went to a ring and boxed it out – and the outcome was Usher. I think it was a T.K.O.”
However, what made Justin Timberlake suddenly interested in a kid who was just posting cover videos on YouTube? Does it have something to do with them being relatives? Well, let’s find out!
Justin Bieber’s Ancestry
We all know that Justin Bieber was born to Canadian parents: Jeremy Jack Bieber and Patricia “Pattie” Mallette. What most of you may not know is that he’s got six other ethnicities mixed in his blood:

- Irish (12.5%)
- Scottish (6.3%)
- German (6.3%)
- Belgian (0.1%)
The surname Bieber itself is a German word, which literally means “beaver”. Records show that his great-great-great grandfather whose name is Philippe Bieber was originally from France but moved to Canada sometime between 1873 to 1974.
This essentially allowed Justin Bieber’s dad to be born and meet his mom in Stratford, making JB a Canadian.
Given JB’s French-Canadian blood, genealogists have discovered that he’s a distant relative of some of the biggest names in human history:

- Madonna
- Ryan Gosling
- Justin Trudeau

Justin Timberlake’s Ancestry
Justin Timberlake is one of America’s greatest pride and joy in the music industry. But just like the previous case, he’s also got mixed blood. His ethnicity is composed of the following:
- English
- Irish
- Scottish
- Welsh
- Dutch
- German
- French
There is no available record which shows where and from whom Justin obtained his mixed ancestry. However, we can say for certain that his American blood can be traced back to his grandparents, most of whom are Tennessee-born. Both his parents, Randall Timberlake and Lynn Harless, were also born in Tennessee.
So, Are Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber Related?
At first glance, it seems probable that Justin Timberlake is another popular celebrity included in the previously mentioned star-studded family tree. After all, Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake both have English, Irish, French, Scottish, and German blood.
Unfortunately, they share no common ancestor. This means that Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake are not related – just neighbors separated by the US-Canada border.
We say this with 90% confidence because we have not taken into account the ancestry of Timberlake’s half-siblings. Who knows? Maybe one of JT’s step brothers are actually distant relatives of Justin Bieber.
While they may not be related by blood, these two Justins are related by passion. They were recently involved in the making of DJ Khaled’s newest album called Khaled Khaled.
